DETAILED DESCRIPTION (click to expand)

The Type K was Toshiba's flagship ribbon microphone, and was made in extraordinarily small quantities, making this consecutive pair unbelievably rare, and possibly the only pair of its kind.

This was Toshiba's answer to the RCA 77DX, and exceeded the 77 in attention to detail, build quality and sonics. The Type K has two inductor-based tone controls on its underside, with a 6-position rotary switch for low-frequency control, and a 5-position rotary switch for high-frequency control.

Both Type K's come in their original steel "lunchboxes", and the mics have consecutive serial numbers (but for some reason 4003's suitcase has number 4002 on it... factory switch?). 4004 is in immaculate condition cosmetically. 4003 was acquired in immaculate condition, but the grill suffered some damage in transit as you can see from some of the photos. The internals were completely unharmed, the damage was strictly cosmetic, and the mic behaves 100% as it should. Both mics have been internally cleaned and re-ribboned by Cole Suddarth at Cole Picks Vintage.

This is not a set we're particularly excited to part with. Another Type K, let alone a pair, let alone an stereo pair like this with their original suitcases is unlikely to ever come around again.

The recording below was made entirely using this pair of Type K's in figure-8. There is no processing on any of the tracks.

We also have samples in the other polar patterns as well as the original multitrack stems. If you'd like to hear the mic on individual source, please reach out for access.
