DETAILED DESCRIPTION (click to expand)

This is a like-new, possible NOS Technics RP-3880c which is a rebranded National WM730a, which was the direct (and more expensive) competitor to the Sony C38b.

The RP-3880c has a more detailed upper midrange than the C38b, and a little more zing and color. Lately ours have been getting used more often than our c38b's in a variety of applications including but not limited to overheads, guitar amps, and acoustic guitars. I'm excited to also try them on snare, toms, and vocals.

This is only the second RP-3880a we've ever seen, and it's in perfect condition sonically and cosmetically and comes with its original case and documentation. Like many Japanese mics of this era, it uses a 9V battery, and has a battery charge level meter on the front of the mic. It can be modified to accept 48V, but the 9V battery works for so long that I didn't think it was worth the hassle. We use rechargeable 9V for ours and they work great.
