This vintage Sony C38b is in perfect working order with its original C3 capsule and diaphragm. It comes with an original C38b suitcase.
The microphone is in decent condition cosmetically which some minor scuffs and a few small dents in the grill.
The C38b is one of the most hi-fi and natural sounding mics I've ever heard, and it is truly a studio workhorse that excels in every application. It uses the same capsule as the C37a and C37p, but the diaphragm is tuned differently for a more neutral sound.
It has plenty of headroom making it a perfect candidate for loud sources like drums and guitar amps, but it performs admirably in other applications like vocals and as an ambient microphone.
The Sony C3 capsule has an acoustic chamber that can be manually opened and closed with a screw driver from the back of the microphone. Opening the chamber makes it uni-directional, closing the chamber makes it omnidirectional.
