The Sennheiser "Black Fire" BF509 is the exact same mic as the MD409 with a different color scheme and a different model number. The reason Sennheiser did this was as a loophole with their existing pro audio dealer contracts - which prohibited them from selling in music stores - when they wanted music stores to start carrying them in European and UK markets in the late 90's (which is why it's so hard to find them in the US). So they gave it a flashy look and a flashy name.
The irony here is that 30 years in the future, this gives you the opportunity to pay smaller bucks for the same mic that's fetching almost twice as much. The 409/509 is famously used on guitars, many claiming it's the greatest guitar mic made. It has a smooth but palpable midrange presence that captures the bite of a cab without tearing your eardrums or reaching for that parametric. Each of the BF509s here come with their original clip, and maybe I have their original cases too, will have to dig through some tubs to confirm.

The recording below was made entirely using only a pair of BF509s (including this mic). We forgot to record the vocal on this one. This is our second original Microphone Jingle, written and performed by Lewis Rogers. There is no processing on any of the tracks.
We also have the original multitrack stems if you'd like to hear the mic on individual sources. Please reach out for access.
