DETAILED DESCRIPTION
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Neumann SM69 is a tube stereo multi-pattern large diaphragm condenser microphone that was manufactured from the 1960's through the early 1970's and utilizes two matched AC701K tubes and a matched pair of K67 capsules. The top capsule can rotate from 0 to 270 degrees.
It is essentially a stereo version of the rare and highly coveted M269 which was a U67 that used an AC701K instead of the EF86. It was specifically made for the German broadcast industry at their insistence of using the better sounding AC701K tube.
This SM69 is in excellent original condition inside and out. Both K67 capsules are completely original and in excellent working order with their original diaphragms. The AC701Ks are the original matched tubes and have seen little use and should provide years of reliable amplification. The mic is paired with an original Neumann NSMa stereo multi-pattern PSU and has has a clean bill of health from John Peluso.
Several common issues that appear over time were addressed ensuring reliability for many years to come. We replaced the brittle nubs on the plexi piece that mates with the rotating capsule dial on the top of the head basket with metal screws. The PCBs in the early circuit board SM69s have been tested for intermittence and cracked traces and repaired as needed. The PSU has been calibrated and recapped as needed.
As with most SM69s, the black plastic cap that goes over the access hole of the head basket is missing. You will also notice from the photos that one of the tiny screws at the bottom of the body had to be drilled out after being stripped. This doesn't affect the reliability or sturdiness of the microphone at all whatsoever.
Use one capsule as a mono mic and you've basically got an M269 with a different head basket.
This mic comes with its original case, NSMa PSU, a non-original shock mount, original cable, XLR breakout cable, and anything else you see in the photos that I forgot to mention.
