The KMS85 was a handheld (Stage) version of the KM84 and uses the same exact amplifier and output transformer as the KM84/85, but in a larger body with internal shock-mounting and foam plosive protection in the head basket.
This is a stereo sequential stereo pair with original serial-matching cases. The KK85 (high pass) capsules were replaced with vintage KK84 (full range) capsules, and the foam was removed from the head basket, essentially making this a consecutive stereo pair of vintage KM84s in different (and cooler looking) bodies.
The rubber used for the internal shock-mount system was designed to absorb mic handling noise. The rubber fell apart in the one mic. We tried a couple solutions and went with hot glue to hold it in place, as you can see in the photos. it was the most reliable solution, especially since there was no need for shock isolation in the studio. It doesn't look awesome, but the mics do sound awesome and that's what counts.
Functionally both mics work perfectly. Cosmetically they show signs of use - some scuffs and a few small dents. This is a great opportunity to get a consecutive stereo pair of cooler looking KM84s for much less.
