The MD96 is a very rare Russian-made dynamic microphone. When we first acquired some of these mics a few years ago, we used the internet to determine that they were manufactured by a company called Microfon SPB - but that information is no longer available, at least not at this time.
We were fascinated by these mics because the build quality is really good. They are surprisingly heavy mics with a nice matte finish and a robust internal suspended shock absorption system.
They handle high SPLs very well.They don't have a lot of top end which makes them quite good on guitar amps, close-mic'ed drums, and especially as an inside kick drum mic which is where we've used ours the most (beating out all of our previous go-to's).
This is a great opportunity to get a very rare and unique mic that's reliable, robust, doesn't sound or look like anything in your locker, and delivers "the goods".
