The Soviet LOMO 60U-127 is a passive inductor-based tilt and shelf equalizer that was used in the LOMO 70K-21 console, a flagship 70’s tube console made in extraordinarily small quantities exclusively for premier Soviet film and sound studios.
I posed a Shure SM57 next to the EQs for size reference - they’re big. The EQ uses an unbalanced passive design with two inductors and a 6N23P tube as cathode follower for make up gain and impedance matching. They use high quality military-grade rotary switches throughout, with the most satisfying “clunk”.
The top and bottom knobs are boost and cut controls for high and low shelving EQs, and the middle knob is a tilt EQ centered at 1 KHz. The three-way switch at the top left selects three different operating modes. The top setting (“Equalizer”) leaves the EQ flat unless you make an adustment. The middle setting (“Filter”) activates a presence boost with a wide bell curve at one of three selectable frequencies (1.4 KHz, 2.8 KHz, and 4.5 KHz) located at the top right. The other controls are also active. The bottom setting (“Off”) bypasses the controls altogether, but still passes through the amplifier.
This EQ has the tonal character of the classic passive tube EQs of that era, and is well-suited for buss work and for broad tonal shaping of individual instruments. You can manipulate the EQ curves by combining shelving cuts with tilt boosts, or vice versa, much like the cut and boost feature of the Pultec.

We plan on adding audio samples of this equalizer in the future - how far in the future is unknown. Check back periodically to see if the future has arrived.
