DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The rare combination of this 19a9's cosmetic "character" and fully serviced and original internals make it a true rarity for two reasons.
First, it's an ideally tuned LOMO 19a9 with it's original PSU and sounds exactly how a 19a9 should sound. In today's market, this is already almost impossible to find, especially since half of the mic's electronics are in the PSU and most of the 19a9's sold today are missing their original PSU's. The 19a9 requires its original 20B35 PSU to sound as intended because its giant proprietary toroidal output transformer and huge paper-in-oil coupling capacitor are located in the PSU. The 19a9's output transformer and coupling cap are integral to the sound of this mic, and the toroidal output transformer is unobtainable (as an original or with a modern replacement) because of its unusually high inductance.
Second, despite being virtually spotless on the inside, the mic looks pretty rough on the outside (which to me makes it cooler). It's also missing the original stand mount and uses an original (and rare) LOMO clip that mounts perfectly between the base and the connector. For this reason, this mic priced very reasonably. It's the most affordable 19a9 on the market, it's one of the only ones with all of the original parts, and certainly the only one that's been this meticulously serviced and tested.
The original capsule has been expertly reskinned by John Peluso, who has reskinned over two dozen 19a9s for us over the years, and is carefully tuned to match our studio's NOS pair. The internal capacitor has been replaced with a modern and reliable tantalum cap, and the mic has a dead-quiet NOS 6J1P tube installed, and comes with a spare.
As always, we would be more than happy to record samples of this particular 19a9, and could record it side-by-side with one or two others for you to compare. Just email me at mike@russianrecording.com
