DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Elation KM201 is a small diaphragm condenser made in Russia in the 90's and early 2000s as a competitor to the well-known Oktava MC-012. While it may not look particularly impressive, these mics sound absolutely phenomenal, with incredibly high SPL handling, remarkably smooth top end, and excellent off-axis phase and frequency response, not at all unlike a Schoeps CMC6.
The mics are dead silent and use a very impressively built nickel diaphragm capsule that has a very sooth and un-hyped sound unlike most modern SDCs.
Once we discovered these mics for our studio last year, we've stocked up on the ones we could find as they now get used in just about every SDC application. The KM201 is now our studio's go-to snare mic because of its excellent SPL handling, smooth top end, and off-axis response. It keeps out the hats, baby.
This mic comes with its original box that's been beat up and repaired using gaff tape. It will ship with an aftermarket K&M clip.
