DETAILED DESCRIPTION (click to expand)

The VM16 was Aiwa's top-of-the-line bi-directional ribbon microphone in the 1960's and 70's. If you are familiar with Aiwa's line of ribbon microphones (slim chance), you're probably more familiar with the VM15, which is an exceptional microphone in its own regard and looks almost identical to the VM15. Well, the VM16 was the more refined and much more expensive overachieving older brother to the VM15 whose published frequency response extended 10 HZ lower to 50 Hz, and about 2KHz higher to 15 KHz - impressive specs for a ribbon microphone. The VM17 also differs from the VM15 in that it has a 3-position high pass filter on it's bottom.

The VM16 is truly an exceptional sounding microphone with an impressively smooth full range response that rivals just about any modern ribbon microphone at any price. It's about as good as it gets for price to performance.

This VM16 has had it's ribbon motor cleaned and ribbon replaced by the one and only Cole Suddarth at Cole Picks Vintage, and is ready to record sound.

This VM16 is one of two we've ever come across, and one of two available for purchase, so at the moment you can buy them both (see last few pics) for an exceptional pair of ribbon microphones that you can use on anything with superb results.

The recording below was made entirely using only a pair of these microphones. There is no processing on any of the tracks.

We also have the original multitrack stems if you'd like to hear the mic on individual sources. Please reach out for access.
