This NHK RU1-3 is an extremely rare unidirectional ribbon microphone that is an NHK-spec'ed Aiwa VM18. The VM18 is a much better sounding version of the well-known RCA BK5, and the RU1-3 is a better sounding version of the VM18, with extended low end and an exceptionally smooth but present midrange. The RU1-3 differs from the VM18 functionally in that it doesn't have a high cut filter, which means there's less to go wrong on this mic.
This RU1-3 has been fully serviced and re-ribonned by Cole Suddarth at Cole Picks Vintage.
