DETAILED DESCRIPTION (click to expand)

This custom tube-modified pair of LOMO UM51s sounds truly incredible, just listen to the audio sample above.

The UM51 was an FET microphone developed by LOMO in the late 70's that used a variety of interchangeable capsules. The original amps accepted 12V and while they sounded great, they had limited headroom.

The 8a11 large diaphragm capsules that come with these mics are very rare and sought after and closely resemble the infamous 19a19 edge-terminated triple-backplate capsule. The capsules are only a few serial numbers apart and sound perfect.

This pair of UM51's have had their internal circuit completely replaced by a LOMO 19a18 circuit, which uses a 6AU6 tube (the Soviet AC701K). Their vintage mic output transformer is located in each microphone's power supply. The pairing of this amp with this capsule works beautifully with a balanced yet "glowing" sound that works on any source.

Not pictured are two IEC cables, two tube mic cables, and a pair of Shure clips that fit the mics perfectly.
